US $2.3B Biomass Energy Contract Approved for Austin Energy

The Austin City Council on Thursday gave Austin Energy, its city-owned electric utility, approval to enter into a US $2.3 billion contract to purchase all power produced over a 20-year period by a proposed 100-megawatt (MW) wood-waste-fueled biomass power plant. The power purchase agreement (PPA) will move Austin closer to its goal that by 2020, 30% of the power generated from Austin Energy will come from renewable resources.
AVA Solar Completes US $104M Equity Financing

AVA Solar, an advanced thin-film photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturer announced that it has completed its second institutional equity round of financing. This US $104 million funding round was led by DCM and included new investors Technology Partners, GLG Partners and Bohemian Companies LLC as well as prior investors, including Invus LP.
Horizon Wind Signs PPA With Snohomish PUD

Horizon Wind Energy LLC has entered into a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Snohomish County Public Utility District (Snohomish) in Oregon to sell renewable wind energy from the Wheat Field Wind Farm. Horizon's Wheat Field Wind Farm, located in Gilliam County, Oregon, will have an installed capacity of 96.6 megawatts (MW) and will use 46 Suzlon S88 2.1-MW turbines.

Consumers Energy dedicated its new Marshall Training Center, a US $5 million investment that the company says will help prepare utility workers to meet the challenges of the 21st century, including service to the growing renewable energy market. The new Marshall Training Center will use renewable energy and state-of-the-art training techniques for approximately 2,000 utility service workers each year.

The Melrose Law Center marked a green milestone for Vista, California by completing the city's first commercial solar energy system under the California Solar Initiative (CSI) Program and the largest system in Vista to date. Melrose Law Center chose SPG Solar, Inc. to design and install the 110 kilowatt solar photovoltaic (PV) system which spans across three buildings that comprise the Center.
