(EMAILWIRE.COM, September 03, 2011 ) Las Vegas, NV -- Green Chips was the recipient of the Nevada Renewable Energy Leadership (NEVREL) Award presented by the Southern Nevada Chapter of the American Solar Energy Society at this year’s “Crinis” banquet, “Rays of Sunlight,” held on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at Panevino.
Solar NV’s “Crinis 2011” event honored individuals in the Southern Nevada community for their contributions to renewable energy and/or energy efficiency with the NEVREL Award. The NEVREL Award annually honors an individual or organization for significant contributions toward the creation of a secure energy future through innovation in conservation and/or renewable energy technology in Nevada. The contributions may be through research, education, and/or practice. Green Chips is the first organization to receive this prestigious award.
Criteria for this award is based on, but not limited to, the following contributions in Nevada:
• Significant research in energy conservation and renewable energy
• Contributions to related to energy conservation and renewable energy
• Significant contribution to the practice of engineering through invention, design or implementation of innovations in the field of energy
• Conservation and renewable energy
• Significant service to society that has lead to a more secure energy future
City of Henderson Mayor and Green Chips Board of Directors Trustee Andy Hafan accepted the award on behalf of the organization. Previous years’ NEVREL Award Recipients are as follows: 2007 NEVREL – U.S. Congresswoman Dina Titus; 2008 NEVREL - Professor Robert Boehm, Director, UNLV Energy Research Center; 2009 NEVREL - Rose McKinney-James, President and CEO of Energy Works Consulting, LLC.
BACKGROUND ON GREEN CHIPS PROJECTS: Green Chips is a non-profit organization that seeks to advance Southern NevadaÂ’s identify as a sustainable destination, promoting green activity, attracting green investment, and stimulating green jobs. Projects include facilitating a $75,000 Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) grant for green projects in Southern Nevada this year, as well as Rebuilding Together and Shade Tree shelter retrofits.
